By now, we have all read the news. Pokemon Bank will fully cease functionality in February 2027. While I believe this action to be unnecessary, it is also understandable. The 3DS is long 'dead', and the Pokemon Company cares little for one of the game series' most unique features - forward compatibility. I think killing Bank without a replacement - such as a physical transfer method for Switch - is disrespectful to the small communities who use those features (and go on the internet telling people about how cool Pokemon is). Anyway, now there's a time limit for my origin dex. I must complete it by Feb 2027, and thankfully most of the work has been done, so let's talk about it.
I finished this a few months ago! I still need to acquire Diancie, Hoopa, and Volcanion as well as a couple forms of Gourgeist. I have started the hunt for Vivillon, but have plenty of forms that require hacked other-region firmwares to acquire and have not yet researched this.
It has been a whirlwind, but my main goal in the last week or so since Bank's announcement has been to finish Gen 5's Pokedex, and as of yesterday, that is complete - including alternate forms! I had to catch a ton of chaff Pokemon in White to allow trades to that game, but I have the full living dex including the Mythicals all on one save file. As of now, my completed games are White, Black, and White 2. I thought Black 2 would be required for all the Kyurem forms but Black/White Kyurem are unboxable, so the game is unnecessary.
"But I thought Gen 4 has been complete for a while now!" No, I apparently cheated a little bit and had Pokemon I had yet to rename and a few Pokemon which were caught in Safari Balls from Great Marsh. Up to Gen 5, breeding provides the resultant Pokemon in a Poke Ball every time, so I've started the process of breeding and re-leveling about 6 Pokemon. I will rename the remaining and the process should not take long. Once this is complete - and I have taken save backups - I will begin to move my Pokemon into Pokemon White, complete its National Dex, and then move the Pokemon to White 2 (and eventually Black 2) to get my first Shiny Charms!
Once my Pokemon are moved over, and Shiny Charm obtained, my eyes are set on Ultra Sun & Moon. I have beated Sun and Moon but while playing those games, I had not yet decided on my arbitrary rules. As such, about half of the Pokemon need to be re-collected, including every Ultra Beast and the box legendaries, so I will play the Ultra versions to do so.
